Summary

Photogeology may provide useful general information in some spheres of rock mechanics, particularly in the very earliest stages of an investigation before ground is broken. Possible aspects for study are hydrogeology, major fracture systems, broad changes in rock character, structure and regional stress, soil mapping and natural slope failures. Much research is still needed in some of these fields, and suggestions for this are given.

Some types of detailed ground based rock mechanics research would be helped by using the methods of ground photogrammetry, and by photogeological interpretation of ground stereoscopic photographs.
