Rory Mortimore is Emeritus Professor of Engineering Geology at the University of Brighton, Visiting Professor of Engineering Geology at the University of Leeds and Director of ChalkRock Ltd., a company specializing in research, development and applied geology of the Chalk in Europe.

Before Rory became a geologist, he served in the Royal Green Jackets and then with the Brigade of Gurkhas in Malaysia and Hong Kong during the late 1960s.
