Abstract

Bathymetry data may be processed through a computer mapping package to produce 3D and false‐colour images useful in the interpretation of seabed geology and morphology. The value of the data is thereby enhanced and more detailed and more precise interpretations may be gained than from traditional contour‐based bathymetric mapping alone. The principal benefits to geological interpretation are the speed and ease with which the data may be processed to produce highly visual images of the seabed in which geological features may be identified immediately.
