Abstract

Over the past 150 years, groundwater has been pumped from deep boreholes penetrating the Chalk aquifer underlying the Palaeogene strata of the London Basin. By studying the performance of these boreholes, particularly by the consideration of a standardized specific capacity, it is possible to delineate those areas in which greater or lesser yields may be obtained, and to predict the yields likely to be obtained from a borehole of given dimensions.
