Jack Taylor died on 30th April 2005 at the age of 85. He was born in 1919, and brought up on the Isle of Axholme in Lincolnshire. He entered King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, then part of Durham University, but soon volunteered for military service and spent six years in the Army Air Corps. He was the pilot of a large glider laden with troops, and a tank, that made a hazardous touchdown in the fields of Normandy the day following D-Day.
