Neospirifer Fredericks, 1924, is reassessed by means of plaster replicas of the syntypic series of the type species, Spirifer fasciger von Keyserling (1846). Neospirifer is considered to be readily distinguished from Trigonotreta Koenig, 1825, which is characterized of the eastern Australian Province of the Gondwana Realm, and is shown to be closer to Spirifer s.s. and the Spiriferinae.--Modified journal abstract.
