Stringocephalus perakensis n. sp. is described from a rich alluvial tin-mining area, Kinta valley, Perak (Malaya). The presence of the genus indicates a Givetian (middle Devonian) age for the beds in which it is found, and supports the hypothesis that the seas were present over the Malayan region throughout the Paleozoic era. The associated fauna includes a dasycladacean alga, stromatoporoids, tabulate corals, and Murchisonia sp.
