Elvans are known from several rare metal provinces where they occur in close spatial and genetic association with subalkalic rare metal granites. Elvan magmatism manifests itself at the final evolution stage of lower-crustal magmatic chambers in which elvans are produced by differentiation of subalkalic granitic magma. The occurrence of elvans within deep faults and dike belts involving basic and monzonitic magmatism and their isotopic compositions suggest an origin under the effect of enriched aqueous fluids carrying certain trace elements.
