A new geoelectrical model of the Chuya basin is based on inversion of an extensive collection of TEM data (over 3000 soundings) obtained in the 1970–80s. The model images the deep structure of the basin and allows more exact estimates of the thickness of the Cenozoic fill and its division into resistivity units. Analysis of the regional seismicity pattern against the map of basement depths showed that most earthquake sources are associated with faults that bound the zones of deepest subsided basement.
