This paper describes a numerical algorithm for solving the problem of wave propagation processes in vertically inhomogeneous media. The numerical method is based on several independent approximations of unknown functions, splitting of the two-dimensional problem into a series of one-dimensional problems, and iteration for solving these problems on a difference mesh adapted to specific media. The correctness of the algorithm is justified. The efficiency of the scheme is demonstrated by test examples and by solving a seismic sounding problem with the use of an impact-type load of a multilayer medium.
