This paper deals with the modern definition of rock cleavage and systematics of its main morphological types from the data of foreign research. Powell’s classification is used as a base for a wider morphological scheme of rock cleavage with two additional types, through and selective, which are paragenetically related to two main fold types, similar and parallel, respectively. By the example of tectonic structures of the Verkhoyansk-Kolyma Mesozoids, distribution of the penetrative and selective types of rock cleavage at different structural levels of fold areas and fault zones is shown.
