After attending the Mineralogical Society of America awards luncheon in 2003, my husband Francis R. “Joe” Boyd learned that he would be receiving the prestigious Roebling Medal in 2004. The Roebling Medal, awarded for scientific eminence as represented primarily by publication of outstanding original research in mineralogy, is an honor that appropriately caps a lifetime of achievement in the geological sciences.
