The seventy-third annual meeting of the Society was held on 26-29 October 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Presentations sponsored by MSA were organized into 13 technical sessions: two on experimental petrology, three on igneous petrology, three on metamorphic petrology, three on mineralogy and crystallography, and two on volcanology. Five of these sessions involved poster presentations. There were 186 volunteered abstracts submitted and accepted for the five MSA-sponsored categories, with an acceptance rate of above 95% for all categories. The Society’s representatives to the GSA Joint Technical Program Committee were D. L. Bish (Chair), J. E. Grover, and C. Schiffries. Although there was no Society symposium, one theme session was held, Transmission Electron Microscopy in Mineralogy and Petrology, which was organized by Peter R. Buseck, with 22 abstracts presented in two sections. Prior to the meeting, MSA’s short course, Minerals and Reactions at the Atomic Scale: High-resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy, was organized by Peter R. Buseck.
