Abstract

Samarskite from Mitchell County, N.C. Total scattered intensity per atom I a (K) was determined and Fourier transformed, to obtain the radial distribution function RDF, which revealed the closest metal-oxygen distances (r (sub A-O) = 2.4Aa and r (sub B-O) = 2.0Aa). The sum of oxygen ions about an A and a B-type ion lies between 11 and 12 atoms. The RDF of metamict samarskite appears to be typical for the short range order found in truly amorphous solids.--Modified journal abstract.
