Abstract

Characteristics of modulated structures which appear as intermediate phases between a high-symmetry high-temperature phase and a low-temperature phase of lower symmetry. Two examples: for NaNO 2 , previously published results are reviewed; for LiAlSiO 4 , the modulation of the structure is interpreted as being caused by the formation of domains which fluctuate in their width.
