Mimetic twinning in minerals is reviewed in terms of the tensor properties of the orientation states, showing which forces are effective in moving domain walls. Following the Aizu method, various types of ferroic species are developed from the free energy function. Examples of ferroelectric, ferromagnetic, ferroelastic, ferrobielectric, ferrobimagnetic, ferrobielastic, ferro-elastoelectric, ferromagnetoelastic, and ferromagnetoelectric minerals are described.
