Synthesis of both the high- and low-temperature forms (fairchildite and buetschliite) by solid state reaction, one of five methods of synthesis used, suggests that the transition point is in the interval 505–585°C. Low-K2Ca(CO3)2, buetschllite, crystallizes in the space group R32/m (a 5.38,c 18.12 Å, Z = 3) with an eitelite-type structure.
