The effect of the dispersion of the chemical composition of the grains on the peak, centroid, and median of a diffractometer profile, as well as on its shape, is calculated. For this purpose, the reflection (130) of olivines (2θ≈32°) was chosen. It was observed that as the dispersion of the chemical composition is increased, so the peak of the profile tends to move towards value of higher than the theoretical value. The median, on the other hand, tends to move towards values of lower than the theoretical value while the centroid remains pratically unchanged. The profile widens and becomes symmetric.
