Kaolinite has been synthesized starting from various zeolites, erionite, mordenites and analcite, respectively. In a first stage, hydrogen-exchange was carried out as far as possible. Subsequent hydrothermal treatment under acid conditions during 10 days at 175° or 230°C gave rise to kaolinite formation. Transformation scale corresponds to erionite> natural and a synthetic mordenite> analcite and zeolon, a commercial synthetic mordenite. The mode of formation is discussed in relation with the internal accessibility of the zeolites.
