This book seeks to update the well thumbed Spectroscopic Methods in Mineralogy and Geology produced by the Mineralogical Society of America in 1988. The update is necessary due to the rapid increase in both number and complexity of the techniques available to the mineralogist and material scientist; the slight change in title really reflects the incorporation and application of techniques to the study of minerals that are more commonly seen as the domain of the material scientist.
