This is a short memoir of interest to those using cathodoluminescence (CL) in mineralogical and petrological studies. It comprises seven chapters, each on a different aspect of CL. The first is a short but readable review of cathodoluminescence physics applied to mineral systems which outlines the basic principles by which CL physics is understood. As with any short review of such a complex topic, it is compressed but nevertheless it is a good attempt at covering a lot of ground in a small space.
