This is a huge book, with 22 chapters, a list of 47 contributors and the descriptions of 100 alkaline complexes. The sheer size and scale of the book make it quite difficult to digest for review but straightaway it is obvious that the book is a very important reference work and the editors are to be congratulated on completing the enormous task of bringing it all together. The editors are themselves co-authors of 14 of the chapters and the book is very much centred on many years of Brazilian-Italian collaboration.
