Photoatlas Volume 2 is an eagerly awaited, updated and expanded version of Photoatlas Volume 1, published in 1986. This is a massive work in more ways than one. It is lavishly illustrated with superb photomicrographs on high quality gloss paper extending over some 829 pages. The ‘pay-back’ is the sheer weight of the tome (~3 kg). A stronger book spine would have alleviated my concern that the book may not be able to withstand the constant use at the microscope workbench where its rightful place should be.
