Meteorites are our only direct source of information about the birth and early evolution of the Solar System. The stuff of which many meteorites are made has remained relatively unaltered since its formation 4.56 billion years ago. As such, some meteorites represent the original materials from which the planets were built. Unlike popular works on the subject, true textbooks on meteorites have been few and far between.
