This catalogue on Africa’s alkaline rocks and carbonatites is timely as they are currently the focus of considerable research both for their economic potential and their key to the geochemistry of the Earth’s mantle. This is the third volume of the series dealing with these rocks. Part 1 (1987) dealt with North and South America, and Part 2 (1995) with the former USSR. Part 4 will conclude the series and cover Australasia, Antarctica, the oceanic islands and the rest of Asia and Europe.
