The main emphasis in this publication of the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Nagpur, is on clay minerals, covering their origin, distribution and significance in relation to the properties of soils on different parent materials and over the different climatic regions of India. Use is made of case studies and clay minerals are discussed in the context of pedogenesis, palaeopedology, polygenesis of soils and edaphology.
