This is the latest volume in a series intended to replace Dana’s System of Mineralogy as the standard descriptive reference series on minerals, to follow Vol. 1, Elements, Sulfides, Sulfosalts(1990), Vol. 2, Silica and Silicates in two books (1995) and Vol. 3, Halides, Hydroxides, Oxides(1997). Vol. 5, to follow, is projected to cover principally borates, carbonates and sulfates.
