Abstract
A study of the foraminiferal content of samples from around Santa Catalina Island, California, reveals that the living and dead foraminifera can be divided into 3 depth zones, ranging from 0 to 20 fathoms, from 21 to 40 fathoms, and from 41 to more than 100 fathoms. Among the factors studied by the author, either temperature or depth or a combination of both is primarily responsible for this bathymetric distribution. Sedimentation and submarine topography were found to be important in the distribution of foraminifera in smaller areas.
