Abstract

A review of the literature on Diplopora annulatissima shows that only its Ladinian (Triassic) localities in the Dinaric Alps have been stratigraphically determined. The species should therefore no longer be considered an Anisian index fossil. The three varieties and two forms of D. annulata, erected on the assumption of sexual dimorphism, are rejected, and two new subspecies are proposed instead, on the basis of the possession of vesiculiferous or trichophorous branches.
