Abstract

Twenty-nine Miocene planktonic foraminifera are listed from subsurface sediments of the coastal plain of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. A tentative correlation with the boundary of the Globigerinatella insueta and Globorotalia fohsi barisanensis zones in the Caribbean sequence is proposed. Important for the stratigraphical comparison is the Globigerinoides bisphericus-Orbulina suturalis evolutionary lineage corresponding to the world-wide Orbulina surface.
