Cutinized microfossils which lack haptotypic features are described from the Permian of Western Australia. It is suggested that these forms be classified as acritarchs, and the new acritarch subgroup Schizomorphitae is introduced to accommodate forms which tend to rupture equatorially. Four new genera, Haplocystia, Mehlisphaeridium, Pyramidosporites and Spongocystia, and eight new species are instituted.
