Abstract

The range of variation of the microspores of five species of the Paleozoic lycopod cone Lepidostrobus is reported [Pennsylvanian, Des Moines Series, central U.S.]. Size is fairly constant but, for some features, variation exists which, if observed in dispersed spores, might be interpreted as specific differences. Structure of the microspores was determined in part by sectioning. At this time, none of the cone microspores were found unequivocally referable to any species of Lycospora.
