The new species Vittatina africana is erected on the basis of material from a borehole in Orange Free State, dated as probably Kungurian (lower Permian) in age. Variation within the species was determined by analysis of 100 specimens, and it is concluded that morphologic relationships warrant retention of the genus in the Infraturma Striatiti.
