The idea for this Thematic Issue focusing on critical minerals originated from a special session dedicated to critical metals and raw materials chaired by Tania Martins, Dave Lentz, Lee A. Groat, and Robert Linnen during Geoconvention in Calgary, 2020. The contributions to this Thematic Issue of The Canadian Mineralogist are not only based on presentations during Geoconvention, as the journal was open to any authors interested in submitting their work.
