Rare-element-enriched pegmatites of the Oxford County Pegmatite Field (OCPF) in the Central Maine Belt (CMB) of western Maine, are renowned for the production of gem tourmaline, beryl, apatite and spodumene. Additionally, the pegmatites are well known for an abundance of other rare and exotic minerals. The CMB is a tectonostratigraphic unit comprised of lower Paleozoic sediments that were deformed and metamorphosed at greenschist to upper amphibolite facies forming metasediments (metapelites and metapsammites) and an expansive area of migmatites.
