The Emmons pegmatite (Falster et al. 2006) on Uncle Tom Mountain (Fig. 1) is one of the most evolved pegmatites in the Oxford pegmatite field in western Maine. Compared to other pegmatites in the field, it is relatively well-zone (Fig. 2). The wall zone in the hanging wall displays schorl in comb texture, indicating undercooling. The intermediate zone is extensive and in the foot wall shows two garnet-tourmaline bands. The core zone is rimmed by ball muscovite which is a striking feature and delineates the boundary with the core zone.
