Ann Phyllis Sabina was born in Lemberg, Saskatchewan in 1930. She grew up in Winnipeg and attended the University of Manitoba. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1952 and then joined the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa. Ann was hired in the new research area of mineralogy known as X-ray diffraction by Dr. S.C. (Binks) Robinson.
