    COVER EXPLANATION.—Core boxes containing red mudstones of the Triassic Mercia Mudstone Group of Northern Ireland. This group is approximately 600 m thick, consisting of red mudstones and evaporites. These rocks are interpreted to have been deposited by an acid-saline-lake system with pH values lower than 3. See Andeskie et al., this issue.
