We would like to thank Torbjörn E. Törnqvist and John S. Bridge for their comments on our recent paper about the avulsion history of the Lower Mississippi River (Aslan et al. 2005). We agree that avulsion mechanisms are not as well understood as fluvial sedimentologists would like, and that avulsion studies are still in the early stages of development.
