A system is described for digitally imaging split sediment cores that is relatively inexpensive, simple, and provides an image of the core that can be used for quantitative measurements as well as for archiving. The system is composed of a Macintosh computer equipped for 24-bit color, a large-volume storage medium, a Hi-8 video camera, and a digital framegrabber.
