Abstract

A petrofabric study was performed on specimens of the Bromide Sandstone, Simpson Group, Oklahoma to determine a possible crystallographic influence on the geometry of intergranular pressure-solution scars. A universal stage was used to measure the orientations of the optic axes and contact planes of 166 pairs of quartz grains exhibiting long, concave-convex, and sutured contacts. Results indicate that the geometry of a pressolved contact is independent of the crystallographic orientations of opposing grains. However, given a concave-convex contact, the optic axis of the concave grain tends to lie at a lower angle to the pole of the contact plane than does that of the convex grain.
