Abstract

The clay mineralogy of dish-structured sandstones supports the intrastratal, rather than the interstratal, redistribution of clays during the formation of dish structures. Authigenic Fe-chlorite is the predominant constituent clay mineral in the dish structures. Interbedded mudstones comprise illite/smectite with minor illite and chlorite. Dish-structured horizons cause a marked reduction in average vertical permeability.
