Abstract

The arkosic sandstones of Badami belonging to the Lower Kaladgi formations contain detrital grains of feldspar showing authigenic overgrowths. These detrital feldspars are found to be microcline, orthoclase, and plagioclase showing good authigenic overgrowths of crystalline outline. Details of the grains studied and the origin of the overgrowths are discussed. It is suggested that they have formed after the deposition of sediments in shallow water conditions during diagenesis and cementation.
