Carbonates have been recognized in a north-trending vertical carbonate contact in the mining district of the Confusion Range, Utah. Six zones of alteration are roughly parallel to the contact. Dolomitization in the vicinity of the contact was preceded by recrystallization of limestone to fibrous calcite. Dolomitizing solutions were the same as those for calcite recrystallization suggesting control was by secondary permeability. Calcite enclosed residual fragments of limestone from white dolomite bodies.
