Abstract

Near-shore sediments are represented mainly by poorly sorted lithoclasts of derived chert and limestone in a calcilutite matrix. The offshore sediments form a limestone-shale sequence. Data on petrography and facies are reported, and details of the depositional and diagenetic history of the sediments are summarized. Deposition took place in a shallow sea occupied by islands of Carboniferous limestone.
