Abstract

Describes a simple method of size fractionation suitable for application to geochemical analysis of the boron content of sedimentary rocks and summarizes results of a study of the boron content of Carboniferous limestones from localities in northern England. The boron is concentrated mainly in the finest fractions. These fractions are composed principally of illite, and variations in their boron content may be related to minor salinity changes within the depositional basin.
