Abstract

In connection with the discovery of well-preserved, uncompressed remains of fish in a calcareous concretion in Cretaceous black shales of the Magdalena valley, Colombia, notes other occurrences of concretions containing fossils similarly well-preserved and discusses their bearing on the postulated syngenetic (or early diagenetic) mode of origin of carbonate concretions in shales.
