Abstract

Erosion of the crystalline rocks of the Central Massif provided the detrital material in the continental formations of the Paris basin and, during orogenically undisturbed periods, of the Rhodanian and Aquitanian basins as well. During periods of Alpine and Pyrenean diastrophism, however, sediments derived from erosion of the young mountain chains predominated in the Rhodanian and Aquitanian basins.
