First of all, I'd like to express my deep thanks to the Paleontological Society for bestowing this honor on me in this, its 100th year! The Paleontological Society Medal is the highest honor I could ever wish for—reflecting my unwavering commitment to the intellectual traditions and ongoing potential of paleontology, as well as its unalloyed romantic appeal. We live in an age of digital flashiness, but every kid in America still knows that the coolest thing in the world is being a paleontologist!
