Age and occurrence of the fossil resins bacalite, kansasite, and jelinite

Geographic sources and geologic ages of the fossil resins bacalite and jelinite (originally named kansasite) are reviewed. The original material of bacalite was purchased in Mexico city, but its true source is unknown. Possibly it originated in Baja California where amber occurs at several localities in rocks of Late Campanian, Early Maestrichtian, or Late Cretaceous (pre-Late Campanian) age. Jelinite occurs at one locality in Ellsworth County, Kansas. The age of the material is ambiguous, but combined evidence suggests either Cenomanian or Albian age.
